The fifteen fifty-four gallon Rubbermaid storage boxes that are stacked in the corner of the second floor of the main house are ignored for the majority of the summer. By the end of August, the boxes become an eyesore and a persistent reminder of what is to come. As the pre Labor Day week arrives, the preparation to “pack it up” starts. Guests have usually departed, and the chores begin. The season is coming to an end and the return to reality sets in.
There is a lot of prep involved with closing up a home. Maintaining an active “to do” list on iCloud works to keep all those involved with the final chore of the summer. Most items are stowed in sturdy Rubbermaid containers with a silica packet to whisk-away any potential moisture. Additionally, the use of dryer towels in items such as barbecues deters critters from nest building. Industrial plastic furniture wrap is used to wrap everything from utensils to mattresses.
As the final days approach, family and friends are invited to a “clean out the refrigerator and drink the wine” party. Assembling competent and cooperative family members makes this project a breeze.
