The craft brewing beverage craze has leapt from beer to kombucha to soda and now to coffee. The tasteless java of drive through diabetic producing doughnut stores has no place in a locavore foodie crazed larder. Easterners are obsessed with bland D&D scalding hot coffee. Attempting to understand the worship of chain store coffee is a conundrum to those who appreciate flavorful food and drink.
Small batch craft roasted bean coffee is not just limited to trendy NorCal and Brooklyn. Tandem Coffee Roasters based in Portland’s “indie” East Bayside neighborhood is producing the best beans this side of Oakland’s Blue Bottle Coffee. Will and Kathleen Pratt, bring years of coffee knowledge and experience to Tandem. Along with barista, Vien Dobui, the team worked at the highly regarded Blue Bottle.
Tandem, intends to keep their roasts seasonal and simple. One should not expect tasteless or over-roasted burnt black beans. Drop by Fridays at noon to learn about Tandem coffee and how to successfully brew a cup at home.
Mail order and subscription coffee services are available.
